Murray Residence

Hayden Island, OR // 2007

The Murray floating home is a 1400 sq ft. 2 bedroom/2 bath home located on the Columbia River off Hayden Island. The client’s minimalist aesthetic informed the design. The simple wood structure is the showcase of the design, with glulam beams, wood rafters that cantilever 8 feet over the exterior deck, and exposed tongue and groove roof decking to create the interior ceiling. The exposed wood structure throughout the home’s interior, coupled with cantilevered exterior roof overhang, ties the inside and outside together. The river facing wall is primarily glass, making the water and sky the focal point of the design.

The exterior cladding is a combination of prefinished standing seam metal siding, box ribbed metal siding, with a commercial storefront glazing system.
